A sober living home, sometimes referred to as a halfway house, provides support for recovering addicts in a safe environment. They have become a resource to assist the addict as they transition from treatment to everyday life.

They can be found nearly everywhere and monthly living expenses are far less than that of the local average rent.

The goal for all sober living homes is to ensure sober living for all its residents. For this reason, they are open only to recovering addicts. That way, support comes from those who have life experiences similar to each other and a group emphasis is placed on recovery.

The addicts help to keep one another in check. There is also staff member who stay at the home to provide addition help and supervision.

For the safety of all, rules are in place that residents must adhere to. Often, submission of random drug testing is required and rooms are inspected for drugs, alcohol or other associated paraphernalia. The purpose of rules is to ensure safety for all, but also assist in helping everyone from relapsing.
The homes may require residents maintain a full time job.

This is in part to occupy idle time that might otherwise tempt the use of drugs or alcohol, but also to help integrate them back to a normal, healthy lifestyle. They may also go to school. A curfew is often in place during the week and roll call is taken to be sure everyone is home and not under the influence.

Some will require the attendance of weekly NA or AA meetings. This allows for another opportunity to enjoy the support of their peers since most often carpooling with other residents is common.

Some residents will go home on weekend if permitted by house rules. This is considered a privilege and is not extended to all residents. Decisions are based on the addict’s home situation and relapse history.

Understanding expectations and privileges of a home before committing is important. Success of the residents doesn’t lie upon the home itself, but it requires a lot of dedication and commitment from the addict. Go to the next page Halfway House in Palm Beach.
